Description: Vintage Rolex Explorer 1016
Rolex introduced the 1016 Explorer in 1959 and it was in production until 1989 making it one of the longest running produced references from the brand. At the beginning of the run Rolex made the dials glossy and then switched to the matte style around 1966. This example is circa 1973 and features a matte Mark I dial. This mark gets the fun nickname because of the coronet on the dial and how it looks like a frogs foot. We love how the lume has aged to a lovely yellow color giving the watch that quintessential vintage vibe.
