Vintage Watch Condition Examination:
This Rolex watch is in great, honest vintage condition. The case is in good condition with some scratches and wear. The red-back bezel insert is in great condition with some wear and scratches; it has faded throughout. The blue is an attractive aqua color and the red is leaning towards a pink hue. The dial is in great condition with some light patina. The lume has aged to an attractive pale yellow and some plots show signs of wear; this can be hard to notice. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands have been color corrected/ relumed to match the lume on the dial; it is close, but a bit whiter. The jubilee bracelet is in good condition with some wear and some stretch between the links which is not uncommon. The crystal has some light wear.
Description: Vintage Rolex GMT-Master 1675
The GMT Master is Rolex’s signature pilot’s watch, complete with dual-time capabilities. It came to market in 1955, with ref. 1675 following shortly after in 1959. It’s one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the secondary market because it’s instantly recognizable with its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. The Rolex 1675 was also notably the first GMT Master to use crown guards. Rolex initially used glossy dials in the 1675 until around 1966 and switched to matte dials.
This circa 1978 example is in overall nice, honest vintage condition. This watch has what collectors refer to as a Mark 5 dial and the defining characteristic of this is the tall coronet and the placement of the “M” in “Master” over the “C” in chronometer, it divides the C and M. From the nicely aged bezel to the lovely lume color especially paired on the jubille bracelet – this watch has a great vintage look and feel!
